Mala making is an absolute favourite of all Kiddie Sangat activities. We’ve done it with toddlers, we’ve done it with the teens, we’ve done it in States, Central London, camps, classes – you name it. EVERYBODY loves it!
You can tie this activity with talk about Simran, meditation, importance of remembering Vaheguru. You can talk about the connection with the Divine, tell a Sakhi about Guru Teg Bahadur Ji – tie in with the Gurus Song.
There are several different ways of making malas. Today I will talk you through ‘pipe cleaners way’. Super easy!
- pipe cleaners
- beads (plastic pony beads, or any other large beads).
- Start putting beads on the pipe cleaner. You can go for a pattern or just for the shiny ones 😉
- Once it’s reached the desired length, just twist the ends and you’re done!
Here are a few photos from Mala making session we’ve run in California. You can see that even adults are joining in. There was one kid, who made 6 malas – one for each of his siblings and cousins.
